  1. CAMBRIDGE, Mass, Feb. 11, 1992 -- Lotus Development Corp. announced it has
  2. begun shipping new network server software that supports access to a wide
  3. variety of CD-ROM (compact disc - read only memory) applications on major
  4. network operating systems, including Novell, 3COM, Banyan, IBM and other
  5. NetBIOS-compatible operating systems. CD/Networker 4.0 allows
  6. organizations using CD-ROM applications developed by other vendors to take
  7. advantage of the network technology developed by Lotus One Source and
  8. gives organizations the ability to access CD-ROM applications from
  9. multiple vendors across a local or wide-area network.

  11. Using performance enhancement techniques developed by Lotus, a single
  12. CD-ROM server can provide large groups of network users access to multiple
  13. CD-ROMs at better than stand-alone PC performance. Multiple CD servers can
  14. be installed to provide optimal performance and accessibility for larger
  15. organizations. The power and flexibility of the server reduces the volume
  16. of equipment necessary to meet the organization's application needs by
  17. making it unnecessary to equip each desktop with a reader and discs.

  19. Earlier versions of CD/Networker supported users of Lotus' One Source
  20. family of CD-ROM applications, including CD/Banking, CD/Investment,
  21. CD/Corporate and CD/Insurance.

  29. maximize their investment in CD-ROM technology."

  31. CD/Networker consists of several components: CD-ROM server software,
  32. workstation software and administrative software. The key component of
  33. CD/Networker is the CD-ROM server software. The CD-ROM server provides
  34. multiple users simultaneous access to as many as 84 CD-ROM readers.

  36. CD/Networker workstation software consists of a small, unloadable TSR
  37. (terminate-and-stay-resident) program. Once the software is loaded users
  38. can access CD-ROM drives as any other drive on the network. CD/Networker's
  39. administration capabilities allow access to CD-ROMs and CD servers via
